The Oster Pro 1200 is amazing for multi-purpose use. It comes with a 48-ounce glass jar that you can use for hot blending and a smaller personal jar for single-serve drinks like smoothies. It can also produce bar-quality crushed ice and smooth nut butter. It's easy to clean by hand, and its jars and lids are dishwasher-safe. However, it doesn't feel very well-built, and its gear design isn't very durable.

The Blendtec Chef 600 is excellent for multi-purpose use. It's very well-suited for recipes like soups, smoothies, and sauces. It can hot blend and easily pulverize ice cubes. Unlike most blenders, you use pulse mode in the middle of a blending cycle. This makes it simple to switch between pulsing and regular blending, giving you lots of control over the blending process. Unfortunately, it's not well-suited for recipes like nut butter or hummus. While it's fairly well-built overall, some parts of the motor base feel cheap. The jar isn't dishwasher-safe, but its blunt blade design makes it very easy to clean by hand.

The Ninja TWISTi is excellent for single-serve smoothies. Using the 24-ounce personal jar, making a silky smoothie with fibrous ingredients like kale doesn't take long. There's also a resealable lid for the jar, which is nice if you like to take your smoothie with you on the go. The jars, lids, and blades are also dishwasher-safe.

The Calphalon ActiveSense is excellent for multi-purpose use. You can use the main jar for big batches of smoothies or hot soup. It easily crushes ice and also comes with a personal jar for single-serve smoothies. However, it's not very convenient to use for recipes like nut butter, partly because it doesn't come with a tamper, so you need to remove the lid to stir. It has automatic blending programs and controls that let you select the desired texture and consistency of the final result. However, there are only three speed presets, which is limiting when you're using the manual blending mode. It's decently well-built, but the gear design isn't durable and the motor base tends to move around when it's running.

The Vitamix ONE is fantastic for single-serve smoothies. It quickly blends a nearly perfectly smooth drink, even if your recipe includes tough ingredients like kale. While it's not ideal for ice-crushing, it can break up ice cubes. However, it's not as well-built as most Vitamix blenders we've tested. It's also loud compared to other blenders, which might be an issue if you like an early-morning smoothie.

The Ninja Nutri Ninja Pro is excellent for single-serve smoothies. It comes with a couple of jars that are a good size for personal smoothies and makes a mostly smooth blend with stubborn smoothie ingredients like kale or blueberries. There are to-go lids for the jars, so you can easily use them as travel cups. However, you need to push on the jar to blend, which isn't the most convenient design. Some blenders can make an even smoother blend with fibrous fruits and vegetables.

The Blendtec 575 is great for multi-purpose use. It can make a very smooth blend with fibrous ingredients, which is important for well-blended smoothies and soups, and it easily crushes ice for drinks like slushies or blended margaritas. It can also hot blend. However, it struggles to make smooth nut butter. It's loud when it's running and not particularly well-built for a premium blender.

The KitchenAid K150 blender is great for crushing ice. This well-built blender can make bar-quality ice quickly. However, the manufacturer says not to add more than half an ice cube tray's worth of ice cubes at once, so it has a smaller capacity for ice compared to many full-size blenders, including the KitchenAid K400.

The Smeg Personal Blender sits within Smeg’s wider range of 50s style countertop appliances. Like the rest of the range it’s available in a choice of retro pastel colors to bring a pop of colorful fun to your kitchen. It blends shakes and smoothies directly in one of the two to-go cups, so you can enjoy tasty drinks on-the-move. On test, it did the job, although not all ingredients were fully pulverized into a liquid drink.

The Zwilling Enfinigy Power Blender is an expensive high-end blender from this cookware and knife brand that’s a newcomer in the kitchen appliances market. It’s a minimal, contemporary style blender that offers 12 blending speeds as well as five auto programs and pulse. It’s simple to use and blends well, but we were a little disappointed with the ice crush program and the pitcher can’t go in the dishwasher. That said, it looks nice and will do the job as long as you’re not on a budget.
