Call of Duty: Black Ops is a great overall package that has a ton of content to enjoy. The multiplayer modes are largely based on what was established by Modern Warfare, but the twists that Treyarch throws in work well. My biggest issue with the multiplayer is that the new Wager Matches, while fun in their own right, don't compare favorably to the high-quality and addictive leveling system and game modes from Modern Warfare 1 and 2. Single-player is as exhaustingly fast-paced as ever, though the Wii version stumbles often thanks to its technical limitations. That withstanding, the story is the best I've ever seen from a Call of Duty game. The multiplayer and single-player are solid on Wii, but the lack of zombie content is a real bummer. Having only one map feels like a disservice to fans. Black Ops on Wii is a solid offering that fans of the series with no other console options will enjoy.

Saints Row IV is a mindless, stupid playground of destruction with no artistic value but loads of entertainment value.

Metal Rising Rising: Revengeance may be a hack and slack action title, but it's a Metal Gear game through and through.

Platinum Games delivers another action gem that's full of wacky characters and even wackier moves, but the far-too-chaotic multiplayer mode is a bit of a downer.

NCAA Football 13 is a great game -- the changes to the core engine are welcome, challenging and exciting -- but the little stuff adds up. Similar modes, audio inaccuracies and visual missteps make a game that's better than last year's on the technical level but lesser as an overall product.

Let’s call it the next-generation difference. Nearly two weeks ago I sat down to play Fight Night Round 3 on the good old Playstation 2. It was a good boxing game, with tight controls, a decent career mode, some nice additional features and respectable graphics. I’m not a boxing fan, which always limits my interest in these things, but I could appreciate that, if you were into boxing it was a good game. Not fantastic, not astounding, but very good.

Call of Duty: Ghosts isn't a reinvention of the franchise, but proves there's still room for innovation within its existing formula. Though at the risk of overcomplicating things at times, its robust multiplayer gameplay, surprisingly fun co-op modes, and lengthy, challenging, and varied campaign makes Ghosts one of the best Call of Duty games to date.
