The Epson WorkForce WF-2930 is a middling option for home office use. Even though replacement ink cartridges are cheap, they have a low page yield, so you'll be swapping them out often if you frequently print multi-page documents. Printing speed is also quite slow, so it isn't the best choice if you regularly need to print documents out on short notice. That said, printed documents are well-rendered and very legible. Its scanner has an ADF, allowing it to quickly process multiple pages. However, it lacks duplex scanning capability.

The Canon imageCLASS MF3010 is decent for printing black-and-white documents. It doesn't take long to warm up and prints quickly; however, it can't perform duplex printing, which means you'll have to print double-sided sheets manually. Unfortunately, the print quality is only mediocre, as printed documents look faded with noticeable artifacts. On the upside, its cost-per-print is exceptionally low as its toner cartridge yields a large number of prints. It has a scanner but lacks an automatic feeder and duplex scanning capability, so scanning multi-page and double-sided documents can be very time-consuming.

The Brother HL-L2325DW is good for printing black and white documents. It produces very high-quality documents, and while it takes a while to warm up, it prints very quickly once it gets going. Its toner cartridge yields a lot of prints and is relatively cheap, which helps keep your maintenance costs low over time. Unfortunately, neither this model nor its variants have a scanner.

The Epson EcoTank Pro ET-5180 is excellent for small or home offices. Its ink tank yields thousands of pages before needing a refill, which is great for high-volume printing. It has a scanner with an automatic feeder, can perform automatic double-sided printing, and doesn't require much maintenance. It prints black text documents reasonably quickly, but it's a little slow with color prints.

The Canon PIXMA TR8620a is mediocre for small or home offices. It doesn't print as many pages as other office printers do, so you might pay a lot in ink if you need to print large amounts often. Luckily, the price of the cartridges is relatively cheap, which keeps the cost-per-print low. There are also high-yield cartridges available that will last you longer.

The HP 7255e is okay for family use. It doesn't print many pages before its cartridges run out of ink, but you only need to buy them every few months if you print just a few pages a week. It prints great-looking photos; some colors look a bit inaccurate, like blue and violet hues, but they aren't bad enough to ruin your pictures.

The Epson ET-4800 is decent for small or home offices. You can print thousands of pages before the black and color tanks run empty, so even if you print a hundred pages a week, you won't have to buy refill bottles too often. It has a flatbed scanner, an automatic document feeder, and built-in fax, so you'll be set for most office tasks. Unfortunately, it can't scan or print double-sided sheets automatically, so you have to flip the sheets over yourself when the printer prompts you. Also, it prints slowly, so you'll wait a while for your document to print, especially if your office has multiple people using the printer.

The Epson EcoTank ET-2800/Epson EcoTank ET-2803 performs well for family use. Its cheap ink bottle refills and incredible page yields mean it's remarkably cheap to maintain in the long run, easing the load on your wallet. It prints great-looking, vibrant photos, and its color accuracy is fine for everyday use. It has a high-resolution flatbed scanner, but the lack of an automatic document feeder makes digitizing multi-page documents cumbersome, as you'll have to scan each page manually.

Canon imageCLASS MF242dw is a good printer for black-and-white printing. It has high page yields and an outstanding cost-per-print for black-only text documents. It feels well-built and doesn't require a lot of maintenance to upkeep. Though it takes a little bit to warm up and print the first page, it's still very quick, and subsequent pages print out even faster. The main downside of this printer is its poor print quality, which might be a dealbreaker if you need to print professional-looking documents for work.

The Brother MFC-J1205W is good for family use. It produces high-quality black and color documents, and thanks to its high page yields, it doesn't cost much to maintain. For photos, it prints very detailed pictures with reasonably accurate colors; however, it can't produce bright, saturated tones. It connects via Wi-Fi or USB and supports Apple AirPrint and Mopria Print Service, making it easy for every household member to access. It only has a flatbed scanner, so scanning multi-page documents can be very time-consuming, and while the scan quality is great, some finer details don't come through, which isn't ideal for digitizing photos and graphics.
