FIFA 10 feels like it’s playing to the cheap seats rather than focusing on the authentic gameplay we’ve seen so many times before. Sure, there are a lot of modes in this download, with perhaps the widest array of teams and leagues of any mobile soccer game, but that doesn’t help where it counts: gameplay. Soccer games will always enjoy the success that comes with being the most popular sport in the world, but they usually offer far more depth, and satisfaction than what we’re getting in this $10 download. Even in a few competing soccer titles on the iPhone, you’ll find that there’s a fair amount to the gameplay while in FIFA 10, things are a bit too easy and too casual. Don’t get me wrong –- it’s a solid game, but it doesn’t really deliver the nuanced soccer experience we’ve come to expect from the FIFA series.

FIFA 10 is the definitive soccer experience if there ever was one. It packages a list of modes that perform in wonderful harmony with one another thanks to Virtual Pro and the fact that the gameplay lives up to this praise should only sweeten the deal. Taking the game online is as awesome as it was last year and with Live Season 2.0 kicking off once the US version ships on October 20, soccer diehards are going to have even more to sink their teeth into. If you were a past soccer fan and are looking to get back into the swing of things or if you’ve been eagerly awaiting FIFA 10’s release, you absolutely, positively will not be disappointed.

FIFA 10 on PC lacks the incredibly authentic gameplay that you’ll find in the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t things for you to enjoy. Manager Mode is home to plenty of gameplay hours and the graphics are solid on the pitch, even if the soccer isn’t as fluid as it should be. Be A Pro is enjoyable for a time, but I really would’ve liked to see Virtual Pro make its way to the platform. Maybe next year PC gamers will get the package that they deserve.

FIFA 10 on PS2 is yet another sports game on the system that should have never been. The gameplay is fine for what it is, but it hasn’t seen much attention over the last few years. If this is your only option for virtual soccer, you could do worse than FIFA 10 on PlayStation 2, but you could also do much better with pretty much any version of the game currently on the market.

FIFA 10 is a solid game of soccer on PSP, even if it doesn’t reinvent the wheel in the same way as its console brethren. The gameplay is solid and there are enough fun little distractions (Soccer IQ and Challenge Mode) to keep things fresh for quite some time. I’m a little disappointed that they weren’t able to switch up the core modes and gameplay all that much, but the small additions here and there are still appreciated. If you didn’t pick up FIFA 09, you owe it to your handheld to fork over the cash for FIFA 10.
