Resident Evil 4
The Resident Evil 4 remake retains what made the original 2005 release one of the most influential games of all time, while also giving the whole experience a much-needed visual facelift. Smart tweaks have also been made to the core gameplay mechanics in the name of modernization. However, a few dated elements remind you that this is a remake of a nearly two-decades-old game.

Product details
- Reawaken a Classic – Resident Evil 4 preserves the essence of the original game, now reconstructed using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine to deliver realistic visuals and additional narrative depth to the iconic story that was not possible at the time of the original release.
- Modernized Gameplay – The team from 2019’s Resident Evil 2 returns to build upon the series’ modern approach to survival horror. Engage in frenzied combat with the Ganados villagers, explore a European village gripped by madness, and solve puzzles to access new areas and collect useful items for Leon and Ashley’s constant struggle to survive.
- Overwhelming Hordes – Face hordes of rabid enemies that threaten to overwhelm Leon with even more diverse methods of attack than in the original release.
- Survive on a Knife’s Edge – Years of intense training have taught Leon new ways to use his knife, helping to even the odds against the unrelenting onslaught of enemies. By parrying enemy attacks, you can avoid debilitating damage and evade lunging enemies seeking to grab Leon and hold him in place. Make smart use of scavenged knives to deliver precise finishing moves on vulnerable enemies, and even use the element of surprise to quietly dispatch unsuspecting foes before they break.

Building upon the expectations set by 2019’s Resident Evil 2 and the legacy of its source material, the Resident Evil 4 remake is a triumph on every level, and one that I recommend not only to fans of the series but also any gamers who are remotely interested in horror, action and engrossing storytelling.

Deze remake is super geslaagd, met slimme moderniseringen en een visuele revisie die de game enger en krachtiger maken.

Rightly or wrongly, Nintendo has picked up a reputation for being the “kiddies’ choice” when it comes to console gaming. This opinion developed mainly from the cutesy characters associated with Nintendo in big games such as Super Mario and Zelda. That’s not to say that these games aren’t good, because they are, very good to be precise; but a lot of prospective gamers have been put off by the younger look and feel of these games. However, the cutesy Nintendo image is about to take a battering, because Capcom has released Resident Evil 4 and made it a GameCube exclusive – at least until the end of the year when a PlayStation 2 version is rumoured.

Whether you're a fan of the original or a newcomer with a hankering for some action-heavy horror of the highest quality, Resident Evil 4 is like a parasite-riddled Spaniard: a total no-brainer. Its combat is friction-free but no less stress-inducing thanks to its ferocious cast of creatures, its story rapidly shuttles through a series of action scenes that are diverse in structure but uniformly unwavering in intensity, and its world is rich in detail and full of fun and often snarling surprises. Its improvements over the original are too numerous to list, from simple quality of life changes to completely overhauled boss fight mechanics, and with the exception of the disappointingly diminished personality of the merchant, the team at Capcom has barely put a foot wrong. Whaddaya buying? Only the most relentlessly exciting Resident Evil adventure of all time that’s been rebuilt, refined, and realised to the full limits of its enormous potential. A wise choice, mate.

While there are a substantial amount of complaints in this review about graphics, the game still plays very well. The puzzle mechanics work smoothly, environments are introduced in skillful fashion, and the fighting is always interesting and low on frustration factor, aside from the aim-to-shoot mechanic in close quarters combat. If you don't have a PS2 or GameCube lying around, you really should play this game, and to do so you really need a gamepad. The game's got five extra missions where you play as Ada Wong, some new weapons and costumes, and a 20 dollar price tag. If you can get past the graphics and input calamities, it's not hard to enjoy.
