Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

Though it probably won't win new fans, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a polished dose of more of the same high-octane FPS action that series loyalists have come to expect.

Overall, the campaign is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s strength. Its well-designed missions make for excellent weapon testing grounds and feature a slew of interesting mechanics that wouldn’t work anywhere else. Some of its best parts come about because of the secretive nature of this war, and that includes some heavy moments that are generally done well. The multiplayer, meanwhile, maintains its smooth gunplay and has great weapon customization to go with it, but those don't matter when having to play on this disappointing batch of launch maps. Still, Modern Warfare’s gorgeous new Realism mode, the large-scale Ground War, and quick and dirty Gunfight help mix things up for a good time.

Infinity Ward's reboot of the iconic classic doesn't surpass the original, but does a fantastic job of translating its formula into the modern era. A thrilling solo campaign alongside a robust selection of multiplayer options ensure this package is well worth a visit, even if the long-awaited return of Special Ops just about misses the mark.

This is a stunning return to form for a franchise that many people were just about ready to write off. By being big and bold with the return of its most successful tentpole, Activision has given a new lease of life to the shooter. The single player campaign, “regular” multiplayer and even the sublime 2 v 2 Gunfight mode are great reasons to re-up if you’ve been away from the series for a while. However, the disappointing Spec Ops mode and the Battlefield aping Ground War are a reminder of the feature creep that made the series start to struggle. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is worth your time and effort, even if there are some parts of the package that let it down, and a few more moments that speak of a desire to stoke controversy, rather than entertain.

Modern Warfare se ha convertido en un regreso espectacular dentro de una plataforma que mucha gente estaba a punto de dar por perdida.  Nos encanta la campaña para un jugador, el modo multijugador normal e incluso el sublime modo 2v2 Gunfight. Todo esto son buenas razones para volver a jugar si has decidido estar fuera de este juego durante un tiempo. Sin embargo, nos han decepcionado de algún modo el Spec Ops y el Battlefield, aunque el resto hace que el juego siga mereciendo la pena.  Call of Duty: Modern Warfare merece la pena, incluso si algunas partes de su conjunto decepcionan un poco.
