Medal of Honor: Airborne

Frankly, in a four-month period when we also see Bioshock, Halo 3, Haze, Call of Duty 4 and Crysis, I was looking forward to seeing this game in the same way that you might look forward to dinner with distant relatives when you could be in the pub with friends: there’s a small chance that you might enjoy it, but the chances of boredom were riding rather high. After all, isn’t this the franchise that introduced the realistic World War II shooter, then milked it to the point of extinction? Hasn’t even Call of Duty seen reason to leave those damn Nazis alone? My personal feeling is that the last couple of console MoHs weren’t nearly as rotten as some would make out, but even I’d have to admit that the series had lost its way. Wasn’t it time to put this old dog to sleep, once and for all?

Medal of Honor: Airborne, while not perfect, is definitely the best game in the franchise to come along in quite a while. It may be fairly short, but those hours are pretty much one non-stop battle with Nazi Germany throughout the various paratrooper campaigns from World War II. The levels are designed well and provide a few different environmental challenges that shooter fans should appreciate. The weapons feel and sound good as well and dropping into each level from the sky adds some interest and replayability through occasionally the feature seems more like a gimmick than something to change shooters for all time. The shiny coat of EA presentation covering all aspects of Airborne certainly help with the enjoyment, but there's not quite as much variety and interaction that we're becoming used to in top-tier shooters these days.

Medal of Honor: Airborne for mobile is a solid action game with great pacing. If you haven't yet succumbed to World War II fatigue (as I suspect many gamers have), there is some good action here for those between-puzzler sessions. The game is a tad short with eight missions, but while you're in the trenches, there's certainly some fun to be had.
