Lexmark has a range of all-in-ones to suit all prices and the X5470 sits above its entry-level devices and offers faxing as well as photo printing.

Lexmark’s marketing strategy for its ink-jet printers and all-in-ones has been to sell them cheap, at one point so cheap it was rumoured to cost less to buy a replacement printer than a pair of new ink cartridges. Its latest photo printer, the P915, is still inexpensive to buy, but not quite at that level. For under £75, though, you’re still getting a lot of printer for your money.

The Brother MFC-L2700DW monochrome laser multifunction printer (MFP) offers speed and paper handling suitable for a micro office or for heavy-duty use as a personal printer.

Canon's imageClass MF275dw mono laser offers basic printing, scanning, copying, and faxing fit for homes or small offices, but we'd like it more if it had higher paper capacity or at least a single-sheet bypass tray.

HP's Envy Inspire 7255e prints well and gives you a free six months of ink if you sign up for HP+, making it a good but not class-leading family or home-office value.

The HP DeskJet 2755e delivers high image quality and middle-of-the-road performance, and is a good fit if you don't mind basic software and are willing to sign up for an ink subscription plan to keep ink costs reasonable.

The mono-laser Pantum M6552NW delivers acceptable speed and output quality for its intended use as light-duty personal all-in-one printer for a small or home office.
