Grim Dawn is one of the best action-RPGs out there, combining excellent hack and slash action with a world and progression curve that makes it worth fighting through. Alone or with friends, it’s hour after hour of top quality combat and looting, with the promise of many more excellent dark times to come.

It's no Chosen One, but the Force runs strong in this family. With more Star Wars-themed levels and a 'Skylanders'-like toy component, 'Angry Birds Star Wars II' is no exception.

Borderlands 2 goes further than its predecessor in fun, humor, and scope, and if you value exploration and leveling up as much as shooting people, this is the perfect game for you.

Blizzard's third, and final, expansion for StarCraft II adds new units and game modes, and ties up loose plot threads in the galactic saga of this storied real-time-strategy franchise.

With its creative level designs and simple controls, Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack is the type of game where you can sit back and enjoy eating up everything on Earth without investing too much time, cash, or energy to do it. It may not have changed much since its initial release, and a few more levels would have been nice, but for those who missed it the first time around, there's good reason to slurp up this jiggly gem now.

This is one of the scariest games in recent memory. The loading screen recommends you turn the lights off and play with headphones, something I'll strongly echo. Amnesia: The Dark Descent's puzzles aren't especially impressive and the voice acting can range from convincing to goofy, but the atmosphere Frictional has infused into the experience is as powerful as they come. It's a tale of terror that's menacing and disturbing from the very first moments, and only amplifies the further you progress. Any fan of horror, every Lovecraft fan, and any with even a hint of curiosity should give Amnesia a shot. Few games are able to conjure up an atmosphere this genuinely frightening.

Dragon Age: Inquisition has some utterly amazing moments, but they’re padded out by a fair amount of ho-hum filler.

Titanfall’s second outing has more to offer than the original, but the novelty’s worn off a bit and the singleplayer campaign waffles between brilliant and boring.

Anomaly: Warzone Earth is a clever twist on tower defense that will rope back in gamers that think they’ve had enough of the well-worn formula. The balancing act between action and strategy is nicely tuned. Even when the firefights are ferocious, you’re still thinking about adjusting routes and how to smartly deploy precious power-ups so you don’t run dry later in the mission. And to top it all off, Anomaly’s good story and great locations give you constant reasons to fight. You always want to see what happens next. Thankfully, the gameplay itself is strong enough to bring you back even after the final act.
