By design the Nikon 1 J3 is the most basic compact system camera (CSC) you’re likely to find. This super-compact interchangeable lens camera is designed for convenience and simplicity, and uses Nikon’s own CX sensor that’s smaller than the micro-four-thirds and APS-C sensors found on many rivals. Although there are bound to be issues caused by the relatively small sensor in comparison to competing DSLRs, there are also quite clear benefits.The CX sensor allows for both the camera and the supporting lenses to be very compact, which means the Nikon 1 J3 is more like a compact camera in size. Provided the lens isn’t too large, it will fit in many people’s trouser pockets.

As mentioned previously, the Nikon 1 J3 features a sensor that is much smaller than competing CSCs, and unfortunately it shows in the shots it takes.
