Even if Razer haven't significantly changed the Blade Pro design in a few years, I still think this 2021 update is a great laptop in its class. The overall performance that comes from this form factor is good, and the cooling system does an excellent job keeping everything stable. I’m most impressed with this new QHD screen, though, as I think it’s been a necessity for 17” for a long time now. At the same time, I feel that the battery life, audio, and keyboard could be improved, especially on a device that demands this sort of a premium.

Razer’s new Blade Pro 17 gaming laptop is the first to release with a 4K resolution display that has a 120Hz refresh rate. This provides the best of both worlds in terms of visual quality and fidelity, but unfortunately, the rest of the laptop can’t keep up with its ambition.

With the updated Blade Pro 17, you’re looking at a 17” gaming experience crammed into a traditional 15” laptop form factor. The screen, keyboard and trackpad are all great, the laptop itself is well built and actually pretty portable considering the screen size, and Razer has eliminated the things I hated with the older version and found ways to make it so much better. I would have, however, expected a larger battery on this notebook, better thermals and more screen options, especially on a Pro laptop with Pro-level pricing.

I liked the Blade Pro 17 last year, and I like it even more this year. Razer not only kept the best parts of the laptop the same, but they also updated the hardware specs and screen, as well as the keyboard's layout. As a result, this outperforms the previous generation by a fair margin, even if it's not the fastest implementation of the 8Core i7 platform, and remains one of the better-balanced 17-inchers in its portable niche. The short battery life and the steep pricing might hold some of you back, though.

As long as your bank balance is healthy, the Razer Blade Pro 17 is a premium gaming laptop well worth considering. From the gorgeous 4K display to the upgradeable design, there’s a lot to love here. Everything except for the portability, basically.
