MSI’s new Prestige 14 Evo is one of the few 14-inch laptops you can get with Intel’s flagship Core i7-1185G7. It’s on par with Apple’s powerhouse M1 chip in some real-world tasks. But it comes with a dim screen, not-great battery life, a disappointing touchpad, and some other compromises.

Much more than a dull business laptop, the MSI Prestige 14 Evo is a slick and light PC with a solid keyboard and unusually good control over the powerful Intel Core i7-1280P CPU. It lets you run the processor almost unnervingly hard, offering great flexibility for more advanced PC users.

While it's hard to recommend the Prestige 14 Evo as a gaming laptop, I can see the appeal for someone who wants to randomly drop into their preferred battle royal or esports game. And that's about where it's gaming prowess ends.
