The Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 is a machine I wouldn’t give a second look if I came across it in a store. Its bland looks are matched with a basic performance profile. By remaining tame, it does offer a robust battery life, but that won’t mean as much if the lower performance just means you spend longer waiting for it to complete tasks or simply can’t use it for everything you’d like, such as games. While it’s a serviceable machine, there are just too many other laptops at the same or lower prices that offer more. More of what, exactly? You name it!

The Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 has seen minor upgrades, with a slightly faster processor and Thunderbolt 4 connectivity. But with an outdated design and underwhelming performance, it’s difficult to understand why anyone would be willing to purchase this laptop instead of a MacBook Air or Dell XPS 13.
