Microsoft Surface Laptop 2

The Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 is a slight upgrade over last year’s model with an elegant new black color, strong performance and a vivid display, but it really needs new ports to get with the times and could use faster storage.

Much the same as the original, Microsoft's Surface Laptop 2 remains a sleek ultraportable with a top-notch build, a stellar screen, and a very long-lasting battery. Add a port or two, and it would be a superstar.

It’s clear that this is a fairly minor refresh from Microsoft with largely everything about the Surface Laptop staying the same. What you’re namely getting is a new Intel 8th-gen processor for a speed boost. This might not be enough for existing owners to upgrade, despite the gorgeous matt black model. But for anyone looking for a laptop now, this is an improved model at the same price.

The new Surface Laptop 2 is almost identical to its predecessor at first glance, but Microsoft has made some noticeable improvements under the hood. Sadly, those don’t include adding a USB-C port.

The Surface Laptop 2 is a slightly odd one as it’s not a huge upgrade on the original. That said, it comes in at the same price (now reduced) with a few upgrades and the new black colour. You get an 8th-gen Intel processor giving a nice performance boost as well as double the memory for the entry-level model. Battery life is a little down in our test but it’s still a decent effort making this still one of the best laptop around.

Microsoft has a solid and smart-looking device in the Surface Laptop 2. If you want a device primarily for writing that can give you plenty of juice throughout the day, this is a top choice. It may not be one of the latest and greatest laptops these days, but it still offers fab value
