The ZenBook S delivers a few surprises with its winning keyboard and touchpad and elevating hinge. Although a couple of competitors fared better in almost every performance benchmark, the ZenBook S still performed solidly with typical workloads.

Huawei’s new MateBook X Pro does almost everything right, and with few exceptions, it’s the best laptop to buy for most people.

I still find the 2020 MateBook X Pro to be one of the better premium ultrabooks out there. The sturdy craftsmanship, the excellent 3:2 display, the quick and comfortable keyboard, the fine everyday performance and battery life are still among its major selling points, but the limited thermal design and performance in demanding loads, paired with the steep pricing, eat into its overall worth.

The 2020 MateBook X Pro is a few refinements short of one of the very best Windows 10 laptops available.

The MateBook X Pro shows that Huawei has what it takes to build a great laptop.

The MateBook X Pro is a top-notch laptop and a fairly reasonable price. The entry-level Dell XPS 13 undercuts it, but to get equivalent specs, the XPS 13 9370 is exactly the same price at US$1199.99. Even the top model doesn’t have an Nvidia MX150 GPU, so the Core i7 MateBook X Pro outperforms the XPS 13 when it comes to graphics power. Whichever way you look at it, though, the MateBook X Pro is a contender for this year’s best laptop. It’s much the same as its predecessor: a premium ultraportable that’s well designed and has plenty of power on tap.
