The Acer Nitro 5 is an inexpensive gaming laptop that promises a good gaming experience even at full HD resolution, but it cuts some corners on build quality and everyday computing performance.

The latest Acer Nitro 5 is a solid if unremarkable gaming laptop for those on a budget. While its affordability is commendable, its large bulk and middling gaming performance make it hard to fully recommend.

While it might not seem so at a first glance, Acer have much improved the 2022 Nitro 5 series in quite a few ways compared to the previous generations. They've tweaked some of the design lines and ergonomics, included some good screen options, beefed up the power settings and the cooling module, added up a 90Wh battery, as well as updated the internal specs to the latest available today. These make the Intel configuration reviewed here a powerful implementation in its class, and a proper alternative for what is still most likely the better-balanced AMD variant also available in this chassis.

Acer cleaned-up the design, upgraded the thermal module, keyboard and screen options, and updated the hardware specs with this 2020 Nitro5 lineup. On the other hand, the high CPU temperatures in games, combined with only limited performance in CPU-heavy loads, plus the poor speakers and smudge-prone black plastic build are some of the aspects that could lead you towards something else. Nonetheless, compromises are normal in this lower price range, and the Nitro 5 is a competitive choice in its class.

Acer's gaming laptop doesn't exactly offer an explosion of power but more like Full HD gaming with decent cooling. In return, Nvidia's smallest current graphics chip has been thoughtfully implemented, as impressively demonstrated in our review.

The Acer Nitro 5 offers better gaming performance and much longer battery life while costing hundreds less than its similarly-specced competition.

We could forgive the cheap plastic back cover, the basic keyboard, and the heavy weight. But for a gaming laptop, there’s hardly any excuse for the tacky trackpad and the average screen. Budget gamers will rejoice on the price, but hardcore ones will find very little to delight in.

The Acer Nitro 5 (2022) is a good option for those looking for a budget gaming laptop, as it performs well in benchmarks, has a good HD monitor with thin bezels for maximum screen real estate, and a practical keyboard. Its only real flaw is the lackluster battery life.
