Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 Max

The sound quality and microphone pick-up on the Stealth 700 Gen 2 Max are both really impressive - but in actual day-to-day use we found its connectivity quite fiddly, something that grated all the time. These issues hold it back from performing at its best.

On balance, the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 Max is an excellent all-round gaming headset that sounds fantastic, connects to just about everything, and has a long battery life. Unfortunately, buggy connectivity makes it hard to recommend right now.

The Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 Max is a powerful gaming headset. Its 50mm drivers deliver beefy audio that also features plenty of nuance, making game audio and music playback a joy to listen to. The headset is comfortable as a result of lots of padding, but it’s quite heavy and the headband is tighter than other premium headsets. The software package is also fiddly to work with, which can make configuration a bit of a pain.

The basic design hasn’t changed much, but the new USB adaptor included with the Stealth 700 Gen 2 Max provides compatibility with a wider range of devices than its predecessor. Battery life is better too, and the Audio Hub app offers useful options for adjusting the sound. It’s a shame that switching between USB and Bluetooth modes can sometimes be fiddly.

This is Turtle Beach's best headset yet, and a dream pick if you own both an Xbox and a PlayStation console. You'll find better audio quality on some headsets and the $200 price tag is punchy, but the comfy headband, cross-console compatibility and marathon battery life are more than worth the extra cash.
